Lester Lipkind died last night. The man was an institution around here, and it's really a very sad thing to see him go. Funeral's going to be at 11:30 this morning.
President of the local synagogue for a while, pretty much the only attorney worth mentioning in my town for a couple decades, president of the county bar association, all sorts of stuff. I only met him about a decade ago, when he was 80. Until last year, he walked three miles round trip to synagogue every week. He walked to the post office to check his mail (about a mile round trip) every day. He was also bright, quick witted, acerbic, and fluent in Yiddish.
